Our Clients Professional Practices Employment Law Firms

Within the Corporates sector of the market, Working Free has a specialist interest in working with Employment Law Firms.

Working Free seeks to add specialist, innovative and new value to the overall process of multiple interactions between an Employment Lawyers and their clients – whether these be Organisations or Individuals.

As well as advising their clients – Individuals and Clients – on the legal considerations and actions to be taken, Individuals have other and just as relevant needs to address.  They need to work out what to do next in terms of careers, work and, in many cases, money.  Working Free can advise – specifically where transitioning from permanent employment to creating a career as an Independent Professional is concerned.

The positioning of Organisations is different.  Increasingly, there is residual value – sometimes fairly significant – in many of their relationships with “good leavers”.  Working Free can help preserve and enhance these relationships for mutual benefits.

Working Free supports the Senior Executive considering or embarking on a new career as an independent professional. We work with Individuals directly and with Organisations as part of restructuring, redundancy, outplacement, career development or other mid-career transitioning arrangements and where independent working at senior levels is seen as an attractive way forward.

How we can help

Lorren Wyatt is Chair and Head of Practice, Professional Services at Working Free.

Talk to him about these three everyday issues:

  • Working Free offers a practical solution to this question “What do I do Next?”
  • Think about this question:- “How do you lay off “half a person”? With, maybe, a supplementary:-  “Which half do you want to keep”?
  • The Organisation will have wanted to offer an attractive exit package but will so often have been restricted by circumstances. Often, the Organisation will have offered outplacement or similar support.

Exit Management

Neither side of the process wants to be in this discussion.  Both sides have different Agendas.

Usually, the Organisation wants an orderly exit at best cost and to stay the right side of the law and acceptable practice.

The Individual probably does not want any of this. Emotions will include shock, surprise, hostility, bitterness, anger – and then numbness.  This can often exhibit the sentiment of “belonging”.  How do you reconcile “belonging “with being exited? Then comes recognition of the need to move towards practical reconciliation and then doing the best deal available.  The nature of “best deal” is also changing and, increasingly, involves content other than money. Working Free offers a modern and a collaborative solution.

Sensing – as many do – that the next couple of years is likely to see continuing and much geopolitical turbulence and with corresponding impacts on businesses and their structures,

Lorren Wyatt, as a former HRD in the UK with responsibilities for managing headcount,  encourages planning to be not only conducted properly and fairly within employment regulations but ensuring employees would exit with dignity. The process needs to be seen to be fair from the perspective of those employees who will remain and from an PR perspective, protecting the organisation’s brand.

Lorren points out that the way in which some major redundancies have been conducted have featured with negative News Headlines, possibly reflecting lack of application applied across these important factors.

This is his view:-

“Outplacement can take many forms but is usually about finding another job.  Working Free offers a different, a complementary and an innovative support service.  It is the Working Free transition from the corporate role to that of an Independent Professional.”

The full Working Free programme is set out on our website. Bespoke arrangements can be created.”

Lorren Wyatt is a former Group HRD of a FTSE 100 Financial Services Group before he joint-ventured with an International Law Firm and lead the HR Business Consulting Division, advising clients in both private and public sectors. Lorren  has multi-jurisdiction experience gained whilst working with a Norwegian PE global business. More recently, he has advised Health Tech start-ups and is a Co- founder of a US company with AI powered ear-nose-throat health solutions. Lorren has been closely associated with Devonshire House for many years .

The purpose of Working Free is to help individuals and organisations get the very best out of this overall process of fundamental change based on transitioning to Independent Working.

What Next?  – How we suggest working together

  • Our business is about designing a personal bespoke Progamme of Working Free MasterClasses (nearly 25 in total) for one individual.
  • Scaling up is about repeating this process – for as many Individuals who approach us – or who are referred to us by our Corporate Client.
  • The Bespoke Programmes can mix’n’match as requided – although we do have some strong recommendations. One, for example, is that the Discovery Suite (Three MasterClasses)  need to be taken before any others. We can explain whay if you wish.
  • Each MasterClass lasts about one hour on average; is slide-based (between 15 and 20 each); all supported by voiceovers; and each can then be viewed with Supporting Notes to read.  Each MasterClass  includes time with a topic-savvy Specialist Delivery Partner.  For the agreed price, per MasterClass,  all this is open for your personal use for 4 months.   So…. If you’ve got several MasterClass on the go at the same time –  that’s a lot of learning to cope with!

You can read this – and much more on the Working Free website.

  • It’s best – then – to talk about it. Even better, face to face!
  • And construct a Plan – talk about how best to deliver it
  • We also like talking around it.Its philosophical hinterland is fascinating!
  • Understanding what we do and how we do it is as important as Working Free understanding you and your business – and what you are tryng to achieve through Our MasterClass overall Programme .
  • We need to talk about Delivery – its phasing and its costs.
  • In fact, it is important to keep talking – to make sure that all is going to plan and you are getting more that you have contracted for! (It’s a fairly complicated scheduling a multiplicity of progammes.)

The proof of model lies in the extent that Organisation and Individual achieve enhanced mutual commercial and professional and acknowledged usefulness!

Better comes next!  Has that really happened?

“Better Comes Next” is our collaborative and inclusive management mission.
